Weather is Everywhere
Climate change, lack of reliable service by government agencies in South Africa, and the ability to utilise privately sourced weather data from dispersed quality weather stations are inflection points affecting the collection of reliable weather data. See the climate data on https://climate.copernicus.eu/
Weather events are occurring at a localised level, and these events can be better understood on a granular level if more weather stations are monitored. Our relationship with Davis Instruments and VitalWeather bring over 600 local stations into play. We also monitor over 600 Openweather stations as additional reference points. We aim to increase the number of privately owned Davis Instrument weather stations to 500 by end of 2026
Weatherly has grouped these weather stations into over 160 ‘climate areas’ and have historical data at these levels for comparative purposes on metrics such as rainfall and max/min/average temperatures
The weather data collected by the weather stations is linked to the STATSSA spatial framework so that it can tie into the risk locations of our customers. For example, we can match a geocoded database of organisation’s customers and attach a weather risk score to each customer
